This year NASCAR is making it mandatory for all drivers and their crew to take drug tests. Under the new policy every race weekend will have drug tests at random. At least two drivers before each race will get drug tested as well as 12 to 14 crew members. The testing is being done mainly to focus on narcotics, steroids, and beta blockers.
The new policy is being issued after Aaron Fike, a former truck series driver, admitted last year to racing while he was under the influence of heroin. If a driver fails a drug test it will be made public, but if a crew member fails a drug test it will be kept private. If a driver or a crew member fails 3 times they will be ban for life from the NASCAR.
The Daytona 500 will be held this weekend and all drivers have passed the drug test. However, there were some crew members that didn't.
