Street racing has gotten way out of hand in some parts of the US. People get a trill out of racing their cars on the streets and many others come to watch. I was reading an article about a street race gone horribly bad. A crowd of spectators got hit from behind by a Crown Victoria while watching an illegal street race.
In February of 2008, around 3 o' clock in the morning, a crowd of race fans grew to watch an illegal street race on Route 210 in Accokeek Maryland. As the two racers took off from the starting line, the crowd moved into the street to watch the race. Seconds later a car plowed into the crowd killing 8 people and injuring several others.
Reportedly, the driver of the Crown Victoria, Darren Bullock, was racing against another vehicle with their headlights off and raced right into the crown that was watching the cars from the other race speed off. A witness at the race that was seriously injured in the crowd says there was bodies flying everywhere.
Bullock, who was not a part or the race people were there to see, denies that he was racing when the accident occurred. He claimed that was driving his brother home from band practice when he came upon the crowd and didn't have enough time to stop. Security video tape from a nearby Beretta gun factory showed the two cars traveling at about 110 miles per hour. Both drivers in the race were charged with 8 counts of vehicular manslaughter. If convicted they can get up to 10 years for each count.
